“I am thankful to know that I am receiving help and support from so many people that care for me and that is what makes my college experience a lot better. ” -Claritza, 2006 Scholar

Sindy Sindy moved to the United States just before her freshman year at Sequoia High School. Speaking not a word of English, she took the challenge head on and, to quote her ELD teacher that year, “As a freshman, Sindy won the award for outstanding achievement in every one of her academic classes even though she had only three months of English language.” She was on her way to honors classes and a diploma. Along the way she found time to help start the Dream Club in support of the Dream Act, to mentor middle school students, serve breakfast at St Anthony’s, and act as a peer educator. No wonder her advisor said “Sindy is the type of student whom teachers immediately notice.” We’re sure this will be the case at UCLA too.
