 Mayra: Mayra has been described by her Humanities teacher as an exceptional individual who constantly strives for excellence in everything she does. At East Palo Alto High School (EPAHS), Mayra is proud of her involvement as an Ambassador, helping organize events and speaking to EPAHS visitors. She was elected Co-President of the Student Council, played midfielder for the soccer team, was a peer leader, and an English language development lab coordinator. Recently, Mayra helped raise awareness about congressional proposition HR4437, an anti-immigration bill. She organized teach-ins with advisors at EPAHS, produced buttons and flyers, and helped over 100 students march through downtown Palo Alto. Outside of the classroom, Mayra has been involved in the Challenge Learning Center, a leadership training program, and took the initiative to attend an out-of-state immersion English program in order to better her language skills. Mayra will begin the path towards her goal of becoming a lawyer at the University of California at Berkeley. |
