“I am thankful to know that I am receiving help and support from so many people that care for me and that is what makes my college experience a lot better. ” -Claritza, 2006 Scholar

IzamarIza, as her friends call her, has earned a reputation on campus as being one of the kindest and most caring students because of her awareness of other’s needs and supportive, team-minded attitude.  This reputation goes beyond East Side College Prep and onto the sports field where she was captain of the soccer team.  She also volunteered in the community where she tutored and spent her Saturdays planting trees and gardening for the elderly.  Helping out in East Palo Alto was not enough for Iza.  She spent last summer in Ecuador with the Amigos de Las Americas program where she worked with the community and led an environmental camp for the kids.  While there is no doubt Iza prides herself for giving back, what she really sees herself as, is an entrepreneur.  She admits she has lots of ideas and is looking forward to going to college in get the training necessary to make those ideas come to life.  That training will take place at Connecticut College starting this fall.
