ELEMENTS OF SUPPORT
We invite individuals to join us in providing the following elements of support for students:
Scholarships: Awards are given for four years of college. The value of each scholarship is on average $3,000 per year. The funding goal in each case is to help address the shortfall between financial assistance earned by the students and the true cost of their education. The scholarships given to them may be used towards tuition, the purchase of a computer, transportation, books, and therefore will directly assist the student in making the college experience a reality.
Personal Mentors: Each student is matched with a caring and committed individual who provides advice, counseling, guidance and friendship throughout the four years of the student’s college education. This relationship begins during the spring of the student’s senior year of high school. According to our graduates it is the mentoring that helped them the most.
Summer Internships: Starting after the students’ freshman year, jobs can be secured based on student ability, experience, area of study and career goals. This work experience assists students in building networking skills, career ambitions and earning capabilities.
College Success Workshops: Each summer, PCF hosts a College Success Weekend for all scholars. This is a weekend long retreat designed to provide our scholars with workshops and bonding time.
Support Community: Fellow students, sponsoring teams, mentors and other donors create a support community for all recipients. Community attendance is encouraged at the annual awards ceremony, holiday reunion and other events.
